Today, November 26, 2025, Silay City achieved a historic milestone as it was officially proclaimed the First Drug-Cleared City in the Negros Island Region. The proclamation ceremony was held at the Food Park in Silay City, marking a significant victory in the city’s ongoing campaign for a safer and healthier community.

The event was conducted in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH), the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). Their presence underscores the strong inter-agency collaboration that has been vital to the city’s comprehensive anti-drug efforts.

During the ceremony, representatives from DOH, PNP, PDEA, and DILG affirmed that Silay City had successfully complied with all required parameters for drug-cleared status. These include:

β€’ Strengthened community-based rehabilitation programs

β€’ Intensified law enforcement operations

β€’ Sustained barangay-level anti-drug initiatives

β€’ Effective monitoring and reporting mechanisms

β€’ Active participation of local stakeholders and community leaders

This achievement was also made possible under the leadership of PLTCOL Mark Anthony Darroca, Chief of Police of Silay City, whose dedication and guidance significantly strengthened the city’s anti-drug initiatives.

It was further supported and witnessed by ACTING REGIONAL DIRECTOR, PDEA RO NIR, DIRECTOR II MELVIN ESTOQUE, whose presence highlights the importance of this milestone for the entire region.

I expressed gratitude to all agencies, barangay officials, law enforcers, and community volunteers who have worked tirelessly to achieve this recognition. He emphasized that this milestone is not the end, but a renewed call to maintain vigilance and continue collaborative efforts toward sustaining a drug-free environment for all Silaynons.

Silay City’s recognition as the First Drug-Cleared City in the Negros Island Region stands as a testament to the city’s commitment to good governance, public safety, and community wellness.
